How do I add a newborn to my coverage?
If you have a birth in your family, contact your employer to add them as your dependent. The birth of a child triggers a Special Enrollment Period for the entire family, during which the child may be added to the plan, coverage may switch from EE/ES to EC/EF coverage, and the plan may be changed.
Please note: After you give birth, your baby is not automatically added to your health insurance plan. You have 30 days from the date of birth to add the baby to your plan, and this coverage will be considered to be effective for your baby on their date of birth. If your spouse has coverage through a different employer or insurance plan, you do not have to add the baby to both plans.

How do I add my adopted child to my coverage?
Adoption is considered a Qualifying Life Event (QLE). If you adopt a child after Open Enrollment, contact your employer to add them as your dependent through Special Enrollment.
What if my newborn had medical claims before I added them to my coverage?
As long as the baby is added to the plan within 30 days after birth, any medical claims incurred from the birth of the newborn will be covered. However, it is important to note that these claims are covered under the newborn’s coverage, not under a parent’s. Medical claims from before the newborn was added to the plan must be submitted under the newborn to be considered.
